Portable pulsed X-ray machines of the ARINA series are intended for use as an X-ray source for non-destructive material control by X-ray diffraction.
"Arina-7" is designed for directional and panoramic viewing of objects. The translucent thickness over the steel is 40 mm. The working voltage of the anode on the X-ray tube is 250 kV.
The device is used for quality control of welded joints of pipelines, metal welded structures, sheet and profile products, as well as castings and forgings from non-ferrous and ferrous metals.
"Arina-7" consists of an X-ray monoblock and a remote control panel. They are connected by a cable 20 m long, which insures the operator from exposure.
ARINA-9 uses a metal-ceramic tube, designed to work with impulse voltage of about 300 kV and for high power, a new discharger-sharpener and a primary switch have been developed.
Laboratory tests showed that Arina-9, when using F8 film and RCF fluorometallic screens, is capable of radiating steel 40 mm thick from a focal distance of 1500 mm in 5 minutes. Therefore, in 15 minutes, a circular seam of the pipeline 1420 mm can be checked. The time of continuous operation of the device is about 30 minutes.
A series of portable x-ray machines RPD-200S is also represented by models with lateral and panoramic radiation output. The method of color capillary defectoscopy (CCD) is widely used for quality control of welded joints, detection of fatigue crack, corrosion and other surface damages of structures.
It consists in filling the cavities of surface defects with a brightly colored permeant penetrant, and then extracting it with traces of defects that are recorded visually.
Color flaw detection is used to control products of all sizes and shapes. For some materials and products, this method is the only method for determining the suitability of parts or installations for operation.
Visual method of control
The visual control method allows to detect discontinuities, deviations of the size and shape from specified more than 0.1 mm when using instruments with magnification up to 10 x. Visual control is usually performed with the naked eye or using magnifying lenses up to 7 x. In doubtful cases and with technical diagnostics, loops can be used with magnification up to 20 x. Before visual inspection, the surface in the control zone should be cleaned of rust, scale, dirt, paint, oil, metal spray, and other impurities that prevent inspection.
For visual inspection of welded joints, the inspection zone is a weld seam and adjacent areas of the base metal at a width of at least 20 mm in each side of the seam from two surfaces, if both are accessible for inspection. Visual inspection is carried out before other methods of control are carried out. Defects found during visual inspection should be eliminated before testing by other methods.
